2006-2007 Individual School Updates

Arlington ALA – Jonquil (Upper) Campus:
As of 5/07 – Facilities has been out to evaluate problems with extremely hot classrooms at Arlington. It was found that some of the fans in the fan room and on the rooftop are not running. These fans will be fixed as soon as the parts are in. Ed Reinhardt will visit Arlington on June 8 to check progress and to hopefully provide suggestions for relief.

As of 4/07 – The building has been reported for extreme heat – even when the weather is temperate or cold outside. Nina notified the principal and Ed Reinhardt will follow up.

Banksville:
As of 10/06 – Potato bug infestation being treated.

Brashear:
As of 1/07 – The four electrical boxes hung too low are being moved this month.

As of 12/06 – There is an investigation of the four electrical boxes in the Auto Shop that are a bumping hazard because they are hung too low.

Colfax:
As of 12/06 – Overcrowding in lunchroom was investigated and found to be within legal capacity.

Fort Pitt:
As of 1/07 – The hood fan over the kiln was inspected and fixed.

Greenfield:
As of 2/07 – The leak in 111 A & B has been found to be a leak in the front entrance NOT the roof. Correction work will begin in the spring.

As of 12/06 – Still a concern about the leak in the office next to the gym. Ed Reinhart reports that room #301 was fixed and he will look into the progress in this room.

As of 10/06 – There were concerns about the school having adequate fire walls since the City did cite the district about such. It was explained that if the school was really a danger, the city inspector would have closed the building. The project to install fire walls is in the design phase and the bid process will be initiated.

Lincoln K-8:
As of 5/07 – There is no reason for staff members to be concerned about the recent asbestos removal at Lincoln, which was all completed on weekends. Professional Asbestos Abatement Removers completed the work, and appropriate removal precautions were followed and air samples were completed by the Allegheny County Health Department. I am told that Allegheny County has the toughest asbestos standards in the nation.

Linden:
As of 12/06 – Air and water quality report presented to teachers at the BOE on 12/20. All is clean – some plaster work still needs to be completed.

As of 10/06 – Testing was completed on hazards such as asbestos and lead. Preliminary reports show that the building is “clean,” and all will be shared with the Linden staff when the final report is completed.

Mifflin:
As of 12/06 – The leak in room #301 has been fixed.

Minadeo:
As of 12/06 – All of the fiberglass pipe wrap, loose paint, air quality samples (good) and asbestos fittings have been removed and replaced. All work completed.

As of 10/06 – There was a concern that the pipes in the lower level of the building are asbestos. Examination revealed that the pipes are fiberglass, not asbestos.

MLK:
As of 2/07 – IPM training for the staff at MLK has been postponed. No date has been sent.

The entire UNIVENT system at MLK will be replaced this summer!

Perry Annex:
As of 10/06 – A problem with mice was reported. It is being treated.

Perry High School:
As of 5/07 – Tim Rapp’s report on Perry from four years ago has been resurrected and four rooms are being rechecked. Some rooms may be moved.

As of 4/07 – The computer room attached to the library has once again been reported for extreme heat. A few years ago, Risk Manager Tim Rapp requested that the room be moved. Presently, Ed Reinhardt, Safety Committee Co-Chair is researching the situation.

Rooney:
As of 12/06 – Rooney will be getting a shed to store items like gasoline and other hazardous materials.
