President McElroy Gives Congress AFT's View on NCLB AFT President Edward J. McElroy testified this week before a joint House and Senate hearing on NCLB reauthorization. McElroy told the panel that it will take more than just proper funding to get the No Child Left Behind Act right. "The current mechanism determining whether schools and teachers are making adequate yearly progress is misidentifying and failing thousands of schools that are making real progress," said McElroy. As Congress begins the reauthorization process, legislators must listen to what classroom educators have to say and take their recommendations seriously, McElroy stressed. To help reinforce the AFT president’s message to Congress, please take a minute and send a letter to your senators and representative urging them to make needed changes to the law |
