PITTSBURGH  FEDERATION  OF  TEACHERS

Thursday, March 30, 2006

Dear PFT Colleague:

I write to report that last evening members of the Teachers and Other Professionals bargaining unit attending the Special PFT Membership Meeting for ratification of a new collective bargaining agreement voted to reject the tentative agreement.

The secret ballot count was 763 to accept the tentative agreement, 869 to reject the agreement, and 8 abstentions. Approximately 1400 members did not attend the meeting.

A summary and the complete text of the tentative agreement, copies of which were distributed at the membership meeting, can be viewed on the PFT website at www.pft400.org. Click on the “Summary,” “Economic Items,” and “Non-Economic Items” links.

Attorney Steve Jordan and I spoke today at length with district representatives about next steps in attempting to resolve this contractual dispute. You will be advised of all important developments. As has been indicated before, PFT members will be directly involved in any actions that must be undertaken by the PFT, and your support for any PFT action will be pivotal.

Sincerely,

John Tarka
PFT President
